This section allows you to add additional shift types:

Day shift

By default, when a shift is not Saturday, Sunday, or a Public Holiday and it starts within the day timeframe it will be assigned the Day payroll shift type.

The Day shift uses three different payable hours;

  1. 'Day Ordinary'

  2. 'Day Overtime'

  3. 'Day Extra Overtime'

The payable hour used depends on the hourly limit for that day.

Set the 'Day ordinary hours limit' and the 'Day overtime hours limit' to customise when a different payable hour is used.

Example (not Saturday or Sunday)

Settings

Day ordinary hours limit = 8.00

Day overtime hours limit = 2.00

Shifts within the Day time frame...

  • will be placed in the 'Day ordinary' payable hours for the first 8 hrs ('Day ordinary hours limit'),

  • then the 'Day overtime' payable hours for the next 2 hrs ('Day overtime hours limit'),

  • and finally, any hours after that will be in the 'Day extra overtime' payable hours.

Example with shift

Settings

Day start = 06:00

Day end = 18:00

Day ordinary hours limit = 8.00

Day overtime hours limit = 2.00

Shift

Start = 06:00

End = 17:00

  • 06:00 - 14:00 (first 8 hours) = 'Day Ordinary' payable hours

  • 14:00 - 16:00 (next 2 hours) = 'Day Overtime' payable hours

  • 16:00 - 17:00 (any hours after) = 'Day Extra Overtime' payable hours

πŸ““ When a 'Day shift' payroll shift type is assigned, it will only use Day payable hours, even if a shift starts in the Day timeframe and finishes in the Night timeframe.

Day payable hours = Day Ordinary, Day Overtime, and Day Extra Overtime.

Afternoon shift

By default, when a shift is not Saturday, Sunday, or a Public Holiday and it starts within the afternoon timeframe it will be assigned the Afternoon payroll shift type.

The Afternoon shift uses two different payable hours;

  1. 'Afternoon Ordinary'

  2. 'Afternoon Overtime'

The payable hours used depends on the hourly limit for that day.

Set the 'Afternoon ordinary hrs limit' to customise when a different payable hour is used.

Example (not Saturday or Sunday)

Settings

Afternoon ordinary hours limit = 8.00

Shifts within the Afternoon time frame...

  • will be placed in the 'Afternoon ordinary' payable hours for the first 8 hrs ('Day ordinary hours limit'),

  • then any hours after that will be placed in the 'Afternoon overtime' payable hours.

Example with shift

Settings

Afternoon start = 10:00

Afternoon end = 20:00

Afternoon ordinary hours limit = 8.00

Shift

Start = 10:00

End = 22:00

  • 10:00 - 18:00 (first 8 hours) = 'Afternoon Ordinary' payable hours

  • 18:00 - 22:00 (remaining 4 hours) = 'Afternoon Overtime' payable hours

πŸ““ When an 'Afternoon' payroll shift type is assigned, it will only use Afternoon payable hours, even if a shift starts in the Afternoon timeframe and finishes in the Night timeframe.

Afternoon payable hours = Afternoon Ordinary and Afternoon Overtime.Overtime.

Night Shift

By default, when a shift is not Saturday, Sunday, or a Public Holiday and it starts within the night timeframe it will be assigned the Night payroll shift type.

The Night payroll shift type uses two different payable hours;

Shifts within the Night time frame...

  • will be placed in the 'Night ordinary' payable hours for the first 8 hrs ('Night ordinary hours limit'),

  • then any hours after that will be placed in the 'Night overtime' payable hours.

Example with shift

Settings

Night start = 20:00

Night end = 06:00

Night ordinary hours limit = 8.00

Shift

Start = 20:00

End = 22:00

  • 20:00 - 04:00 (first 8 hours) = 'Night Ordinary' payable hours

Night payable hours = Night Ordinary and Night Overtime.

Consecutive Afternoon shift

Shifts with the same EBA in a pay period where five consecutive Afternoon shifts are worked will become 'Consecutive Afternoon' payroll shift type.

Hours are placed in 'Consecutive Afternoon Ordinary' up until the 'Afternoon Ordinary hrs limit', then any hours after that will be in 'Consecutive Afternoon Overtime'.

Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday payroll shift types are counted in the 5 consecutive afternoons but remain their own payroll shift type.

Consecutive Night shift

Shifts with the same EBA in a pay period where five consecutive Night shifts are worked will become 'Consecutive Night' payroll shift type.

Hours are placed in 'Consecutive Night Ordinary' up until the 'Night Ordinary hrs limit', then any hours after that will be in 'Consecutive Night Overtime'.

Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday payroll shift types are counted in the 5 consecutive afternoons but remain their own payroll shift type.

Saturday Shift

When a shift is on Saturday it will be assigned the Saturday payroll shift type.

The Saturday shift type uses two Day payable hours;

  1. 'Day Overtime'

  2. 'Day Extra Overtime'

The payable hours used depend on the hourly limit for that day.

Set the 'Day overtime hours limit' to customise when a different payable hour is used.

Example

Saturday shifts will skip the 'Day Ordinary' payable hour and only use 'Day Overtime' and 'Day Extra Overtime' payable hours.

Settings

Day start = 06:00

Day end = 18:00

Day ordinary hours limit = 5.00

Day overtime hours limit = 2.00

Shift

Start = 14:00

End = 22:00

  • 14:00 - 16:00 (first 2 hours) = 2 x 'Day Overtime' rate

  • 16:00 - 22:00 (any hours after) = 6 x 'Day Extra Overtime' rate

Saturday payroll shift types do not use any night rates.

⚠️ If the 'Use Saturday Ordinary hours' is toggled on, the allocation of hours will be altered. It will first use the 'Saturday Ordinary' payable hours for the 'Sat Ordinary hrs limit', followed by the 'Day Overtime', then the 'Day Extra Overtime'.

Sunday Shift

When a shift is on Sunday it will be assigned the Sunday shift type.

The Sunday shift type uses one Day payable hour;

  1. 'Day Extra Overtime'

Example

Sunday shifts will skip the 'Day Ordinary' rate and the 'Day Overtime' rate; only using the 'Day Extra Overtime' rate.

Settings

Day start = 06:00

Day end = 18:00

Day ordinary hours limit = 5.00

Day overtime hours limit = 2.00

Shift

Start = 14:00

End = 22:00

Public Holiday shift

Public Holidays are defined by Traffio. You can find a list of public holidays under your depot:

  • Select the 'My Company' menu in the left panel

  • Select 'Depots' in the top menu bar

  • Select a depot to open the depot detail panel

  • Select the 'Public holidays' tab at the top

Public holidays are assigned based on the state defined in the depot.

A shift is automatically assigned a 'Public Holiday' payroll shift type when it matches a date defined in the public holiday list of the booking depot.

Currently, you must have at least the 'Public Holiday' toggled on in the "Payable Hours & Allowances Display Columns" table to see

Payable Hours used with 'Public Holiday' only

All hours in the shift will be allocated to the 'Public Holiday' payable hours, regardless of where the start time falls in the timeframe.

Payable Hours used with 'Public Holiday Ordinary' and 'Public Holiday'

Hours will be placed in

  • the 'Public Holiday Ordinary' payable hours for the hours set in the 'Phol. ordinary hrs limit',

  • then any hours after that will be placed in the 'Public Holiday overtime' payable hours.

Use Double Time Override shift

A 'Double Time Override' shift will never be automatically selected.

If enabled, you can manually set the shift in the pay run to 'Double Time Override' payroll shift type.

When the 'Double Time Override' payroll shift type is selected, the entire shift hours will be in 'Day Extra Overtime'.

Note: Night payable hours are never used.

Use Call Back shift

A 'Call Back' shift will never be automatically selected.

If enabled, you can manually set the shift in the pay run to 'Call Back' payroll shift type.

When the 'Call Back' payroll shift type is selected, hours will go into 'Day Overtime' until the limit is set in "Limit of 'Overtime' hours", then the remaining hours will be placed in the 'Day Extra Overtime' hours.

A callback can occur when an employee is called back to work after having already gone home for the day.

Note: Night payable hours are never used.
